Things to Do: Monty Alexander Trio in Asheville This Weekend

Thursday: 07/05/07

Thursday has been a bit of a music day on this blog, with our baby boomer postings, so here is notice of an important musical appearance, more than we usually see in Asheville.

Renowned Pianist Monty Alexander, and his trio will grace Asheville's Diana Wortham Theater on Saturday, at a nice and reasonable 7PM. Sponsored by The Western North Carolina Jazz Society, ticket information can be found on their website.

Approaching 50 years in the business Monty has worked with, Frank Sinatra, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, Milt Jackson, and many more. This is no ordinary Asheville event, but is a chance to see history, and someone who qualifies as a legend in jazz.

Here is the trio doing the classic "Broadway". Monty is accompanied by Bob Cranshaw on bass and the great Mickey Roker on drums, Bern, Switzerland in 2002

PLEASE NOTE: Videos disappear from the web sometimes. If this video becomes unavailable, then find more Monty Alexander performances at this location.

ENJOY! 3 mins 29 secs.
