Biking & Mountain Biking Around Asheville

07/10/07

Opportunities for biking and mountain biking are just part of what helps makes Asheville one of America's great outdoor cities. I am not a part of the biking community personally, but here is a small starter list of resources and outings for visitors.

From MTBWNC.COM: The First-Timer's Guide to Mountain Biking in Western North Carolina. Includes best rides, clubs and organizations.

Bent Creek: One of the major mountain biking areas by virtue of terrain, and proximity to the city.

The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club: One of the best ways to meet people when moving to or visiting an area is to join a club. The information and observations from members will also be honest and unbiased for potential home buyers.

Asheville Bicycle Racing Club: For those who tend toward the more hardcore side of the sport.

From Trails.Com: Asheville trails, with links to driving directions, and so forth.

From the same source: Pisgah National Forest Rides. Large parts of our county are made up of Pisgah Forest.

From Gorp.Com: One featured ride near Asheville, The Swannanoa Valley.

From Mountain Express: Our local news, arts, and leisure weekly, their cycling archives.

Tsali: No list of Western North Carolina biking could pretend to be complete with mention of Tsali Recreation Area, where one is likely to be in the company of world class mountain bikers and tri-athletes in training, or just having fun.

As with any outdoor activity, be responsible and have fun.
