Asheville Wines, Wineries, and Wine Tours07/09/07
In recent years we have noticed a higher profile of Western North Carolina wines on menus throughout our region. Apparently, North Carolina now ranks 10th nationally in grape and wine production, with much of the industry centered in our western part of the state.
Here is a small resource for any wine devotees out there who might visit our area and want to incorporate some kind of first hand wine experience into your visit.
North Carolina Wine and Grapes Council: Includes access to a couple of newsletters as well.
From the NC Department of Tourism: A press release on North Carolina wine and culinary tourism, (tourism, I believe, is NC's second largest economic sector), which leads to this rather engaging link, and a small presentation on NC wines.
North Carolina Wine Growers Association: Includes links to vineyards, wineries and education.

NC Wineries: List compiled by WeekendWineries.com
From CatchWine.Com: Wineries in the region, done in a kind of Google Map format, for driving tours.
The Yadkin Valley Wine Trail: More driving tours, just a pleasant jaunt from Asheville.
Great NC Wines: A kind of blog devoted to a running commentary on the NC wine industry, weather, growing conditions, and more.
And of course, no posting on wine in Western North Carolina would be complete without a reference to The Biltmore House, Asheville's flagship tourist destination, America's largest private home, a winery, and more.
